What are Shin Splints?
Shin Splints is a term used to describe pain along the shin bone. It is a very common sporting injury and is a result of the muscle tearing away from its insertion on the shin bone.
Symptoms of Shin Splits are:
- Sharp pain
- Aching
- Swelling
Shin splint pain generally worsens with increased activity and exercise and will subside after exercise ceases.
Common causes of Shin Splints are:
- Incorrect or worn out footwear
- Muscle weakness
- Running on hard surfaces
- Flat feet
